It probably is the …
It probably is the turn signal switch assembly on the steering problem that’s causing the electrical short, I see that all the time when both turn signals and high beams have problems. Scotty Kilmer

Hi scotty: I have a Chevy G-20 van and it has a short on the directionals; I change the fuse and work for a short time : then it blows again the fuse.
By the way the switch for the high beam / low beam ( both on the steering wheel )doesn’t work since some time before the directionals problem; could this be related to the directionals?????
thanks and waiting for your response!!!

I assume you are …
I assume you are blowing the fuse for the parking lights. Since you have to put the fuse in a certain way to make it work, I would assume the fuse box is shorting out there right by the fuse. Find the two wires that go to the fuse and cut them off. Then rewire them with an inline fuse you can get at any auto parts store. Hopefully that will fix it. Replacing the whole fuse box is Really expensive, so why not just bypass it like this. Scotty Kilmer

It could be, but …
It could be, but electrical circuits are complete circuits and a fuse will blow with a short anywhere within the circuit. You have to check the whole thing by unplugging it one part at a time, and when the fuse stops blowing, that’s the part where the problem is. Scotty Kilmer

I have a short in …
I have a short in my tail lights, and I know it is a short because my fuse keeps blowing out, but I took it to a mechanic and paid $35 dollars for him to change my tail lights. And it worked, but within that same day, the fuse blew out again, and they no longer work. Does this mean that the short would be close to the lights themselves maybe?

You have an …
You have an electrical short somewhere in that circuit. Normally shorts occur at either end of the circuit–either the switch itself, or the sockets where the bulbs are at the other end, so concentrate your efforts on both ends first. Scotty Kilmer

Either your ABS …
Either your ABS system has a problem, OR the wheel bearings are wearing out in the front. those things are notorious for braking ABS problems, there were class actions suits against GM before they went bankrupt for ABS problems. Scotty Kilmer

You have an …
You have an electrical short in the brake light system. Normally the problems occur at one end or the other. So check or replace the brake light switch on the brake pedal under the dash (they are pretty cheap at discount auto parts stores) and check the brake light sockets themselves. Often the brake lenses crack and water intrudes, ruining the socket and shorting things out. Scotty Kilmer

Okay I tested all …
I’m still coming down to two fuses and they both match with the radio. :-\ But I did manage to start the car up, so that’s sweet. Do you have any hints or suggestions on how to find a bad radio wire? There are like 30 down there and I have no idea where they run to.
Okay I tested all the fuses and they are good.

You must have …
You must have messed with either a fuse or a wire and connection when you were testing. Make sure all the fuses are OK and not blown, and that all the wires and connections are tight. You have to be logical and HOPE that the car just didn’t decided to break down right then from something different (which would be rather rare, but it can happen.) Good Luck Scotty Kilmer

Hey Scotty, I have …
Hey Scotty, I have a short too. I found out that it was my radio and my headlight fuse. I took them both out because I had to get to work fast but when I tried starting the car, it wouldn’t start anymore. Even if I put the fuses back in. What blew and how can I fix this entire situation?

Go to a junk yard and buy a used speedometer head (the part inside the dash that shows the actual speed.) Odds are it’s gone bad, that does it 99 percent of the time in cases like yours. scotty kilmer

The ignition key …
The ignition key has to be off, and every other electrical device has to be off (meaning the door has to be closed too because the dome light would be on and turn the test light on.) Scotty Kilmer
