How much does it cost to fix a car battery cable on a 1995 Chrysler Concorde. The battery and the alternator is brand new so that is not the problem. When we tighten the cable to problem is gone. The cable keeps getting loose for some reason.

$10, replace the battery clamp

This one goes out to BigLoveZone who posed this question to me while I was editing the video. I hope this is helpful to those that watch. I tried to collect as much accurate information as I could for you but if you have any other questions you can post them to this video or visit the EricTheCarGuy fourm under “Car Questions” and I will take it from there.

After making this video I discovered a way to use the hook and lug wrench to jack the car up much faster. I will make an amendment video in the future.

My girlfriend has a 2000 GMC Jimmy that just lost the transmission. She can not afford the $2000 repair bill, and still owes almost $9000 on the car loan. With close to 100,000 miles, the car itself is probably not even worth the $9,000 she owes on it. Anyone have any advice on how to handle this problem?

She has to drive something that’s going to cost her more than 2k. She’s going to have to pay off the 9k on the car.

Fix it seems to be the only option in a bad situation other than selling it and taking a beating on the loan and STILL having to buy something.

What are the things called that you bolt a car on (front and back) and roll it all the over so you can work on the underside of the car as well as the top side..Who carries these ?

If you don’t want to spend 1000 bucks, you can make your own. Here some guys have done it out of wood: (Which might not be okay for a larger vehicle) http://www.drjing.com/Mini/Images/LiftOff/181_8199.JPG

Also, I’ve seen pics of a guy who made one which was some steel bars welded in kind of a half-octagon around the car, and they could roll the thing from side to side of the octagon.

People telling me to sell my car, but nobody want to buy it because of the engine problem I seem to have. Every time I start it up, it knocks, then shut off immediately. I have someone that offer me a cheap service plus an used 93 engine. My car is an Mercury Sable 95 3.8. Because of the features and stlye involve with it, some of my pals tell me to invest in the repairs for it, it worth it.Can someone help me to decide if I should or not?, I just bought the car, the seller says no refund! To fix it cost 300 for engine , 300 to put it in.

$600 is a great price for an engine and an install. Get it done and then sell it. You’ll be much better off with a newer car.

Ok so I took my car in today, a 1997 Volvo 850, to have it checked out. I was told that the CV shaft was cracked and starting to leak grease. That the struts and shocks are old, and the front right brake rotor has lots of lips. They quoted me at $220 for the CV replace and around $800 for the shocks/struts. I was wondering if this is a decent price, or if I should be able to find better.
To cod_fragger, I brought it in because I just bought it off my sister, and wanted it checked, there is a slight noise when hard left turning but that is all.

brand new axles sold under the "DSS" brand[made in china] are 100 dollars across the counter these fit perfectly and last just fine
[i have also used this brand in jeeps and have been unable to destroy them] there have been zero comebacks. labor pays 1 hour per side but only takes half that.
if the rotors are too thin to be turned replace as a pair [the right brake caliper and hose are suspect and should probably be replaced, along with a decent set of pads [i reccommend the bendix brand with the titianium top coating [these burnish in quickly and last a long time without fade or noise]
as far as the struts go if a four wheel alignment is included, the quoted price is in the ballpark .

ok. about a week ago my 1998 pontiac grand prix starting stalling alot. like 3-4 times just driving a block. my check engine light came on so i took it to the shop that usually does my car. they said it was the mass air flow something (code p0102). they fixed it. well 2 days ago my check engine light comes on again. same code. i took it back thinking it went bad again b/c they have to fix it for free. they said the part is working they dont know why its on. well today it starting stalling out again and under the hood stinks. i just got the oil changed, new belts and have antifreeze. im taking it to the dealership tuesday. but is there anything anyone can think of that would make it keep doing that? my car has been in the shop every day this month and im so stressed. i cant count on this car at all. im desperate for answers!!

The best thing you can do is to take it to the car’s manufacturers dealership. They will be able to tell you. Just make sure you tell them that you have already dumped a lot of cash into it and you still have no answers. Say that you need to know whats wrong. E-mail me if they give you any crap. Too many dealerships and mechanics take advantage of those who aren’t too familiar with cars.

Are there any good companies I can trust, or is there even mechanics that work under well-known companies that bring mechanics out to the customers house to fix a car?
By the way, my location is in Houston, TX.

I’ve never heard of a service station that bothers to do housecalls, since they always get more than enough business with customers willing to come to them. However, there are freelancing mechanics who do that, and I’ve occasionally seen them in the classifieds. As for making sure they’re reliable, well, you can ask to see their state automotive mechanic certification or try to find such a guy recommended through word of mouth, but otherwise it’s a gamble like with any other mechanic.
